At the ESO Supernova, we can host only two types of company events: science & technology events (conferences, seminars, talks, etc.) and company social days. A detailed description of each type of event is available further down this page.

Explore our venue with our virtual tours or check out our gallery of images.

To request an offer please fill out the form at the end of the page. We do not take phone calls for event inquiries. Thank you for your understanding.

Science & Technology Events

The ESO Supernova offers you two seminar rooms on the fourth floor of the building, Scorpius and Sagittarius, for organising science and technology events. Alternatively, the planetarium room on the ground floor can also be used for such events. We typically host such events on Mondays and Tuesdays, when our centre is closed to the general public. We do not organise science and technology events during the weekend.

Seminar rooms with access to foyer and terrace

The seminar rooms can each house 60 people in theatre setup or they can be combined into one room for a maximum of 120 guests. Other setup options are described in the table below. The fourth floor is accessible by elevator or stairs. The rooms have access to a foyer with toilets and a kitchenette, and an open-air terrace with a view of the Alps in clear weather. The foyer can be used for coffee breaks and lunch, as can the open-air terrace. The foyer can also be used for poster boards.

Planetarium with access to ground-floor foyer and Void

Science and technology events can also be hosted inside the planetarium room, located on the ground floor. The planetarium has a maximum capacity of 109 and is similar to an IMAX® theatre. Any video content, in up to UHD or 4K fulldome resolution, can be projected on the 360-degree dome, which is 14 m in diameter.

The planetarium has access to the ground-floor foyer and the Void for coffee breaks or a reception. Cloakrooms and restrooms are available one level down. A well-equipped kitchen is also available at this level.

The Void is a unique place shaped like a sphere, as tall as the entire building. With its glass ceiling, the room has a warm, natural light during the day and a view of the sky at night. The glass ceiling displays the constellations of the southern sky by means of a manually adjustable light system. The Void is suitable for standing or sitting receptions. Please note the Void is sometimes occupied by temporary exhibitions.

The ground-floor foyer can act as an extension of the Void area or as an alternative to the Void for coffee breaks or standing/sitting receptions.

Company Social Days

For companies looking to organise a social day for their employees, the ESO Supernova offers an experience that is truly unique in Munich. Our offer can include:

  • a planetarium show for a maximum of 109 people. Up to 4K fulldome resolution movies are projected onto a 360-degree dome, 14 m in diameter, providing a unique, immersive view into the Universe. Check out our available planetarium shows here. If your event has more than 109 guests, additional shows can be scheduled. Allow one hour per show.

  • a guided tour of the exhibition for a maximum of 25 people. The tour takes visitors along our 2200 m^2 of permanent exhibition, The Living Universe. The exhibition covers 13 different themes that focus on the human–Universe connection, life in the Universe, and how ESO facilities are used to observe the Universe. Tours last 45 minutes. If your event has more than 25 guests, please select the next option.

  • self-exploration of the exhibition for a maximum of 500 people. Our permanent exhibition, The Living Universe is an outstanding, modern and interactive astronomical exhibition, best experienced hands-on. Explore, touch, use real astronomical artefacts and conduct experiments to get an idea of what it means to be an astronomer, to work in science, and to discover the mysteries of the Universe.

In addition to these three programme options, companies can opt to also have a small reception in one of the available places described above (seminar rooms, top-floor foyer and terrace, ground-floor foyer, the Void).

We typically offer company social days from Monday to Friday. On Mondays and Tuesdays, when our centre is closed to the public, companies can have the facility all to themselves. From Wednesday to Friday, the centre will have other visitors present. We do not organise company social days during the weekend.
